Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the re-
ceipt of your Despatch No. 327 of the 8th. of last October, trowland to inform you in reply that I have no objection to the
Straut
enlistment of ex-soldiers and sailors for the Police Force of
this Colony by the Crown Agents provided that trained Police-
men cannot be obtained.
2.
If civilians are enlisted who have not
served in any Police Force I think that it will be very
desirable that they should be trained at the Royal Irish
Constabulary Depot, where a course of instruction extending
over four months should be sufficient, receiving pay at the
rate of £3 10 0 a month.
